General Treatment

Root canal Therapy

Root canal treatment (also called Endodontics) is needed when the pulp inside your tooth becomes infected through tooth decay or damaged by an injury to your mouth. This infection may spread through the root canal system, which could eventually lead to an abscess, causing a great deal of discomfort. If root canal treatment is not carried out, the tooth may need to be taken out.

Our dentists can perform root canal treatment to stop the infection from spreading and will preserve as much of your tooth as possible. Using specific techniques and advanced equipment, you will receive a local anaesthetic and the treatment overall should feel no different to having an ordinary filling placed.

The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal. The root is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection. A temporary filling is put in and the tooth is left to settle. The tooth is checked at a later visit and when all the infection has cleared, the tooth is permanently filled. Root canal treatment is a skilled and time-consuming procedure and most courses of treatment will involve two or more visits.

To keep your mouth in tip top shape we recommend you come in for regular hygiene appointments and dental check-ups.

Extractions and Oral Surgery

One area of speciality within dentistry is known as oral surgery and this applies to procedures of a surgical nature, such as the extraction of teeth or wisdom teeth. Oral surgery requires additional training in techniques to perform procedures with care, helping patients to be able to use their teeth and mouths again.

If you have advanced tooth decay or an impacted wisdom tooth, you may require oral surgery to have them safely extracted. Depending on your particular case and the severity of your problem, you will be given anaesthetic and offered sedation if you are anxious.

Emergency Dental Care

If you’ve chipped or broken a tooth as a result of an accident or an injury, it can be a traumatic experience. It’s very important that you see a dentist immediately, even if the tooth is just slightly chipped. And if you have knocked out a tooth or several teeth, the sooner you are seen by a dental professional the better because there is a chance that the teeth could be re-implanted, depending on the severity of your injury.

At our practice we offer a same day service for all dental emergencies (upon availability) from toothache, lost or broken crowns, chipped teeth and fillings to abscesses, trauma, avulsed teeth or a swollen face. We can take care of your injuries to ensure you heal quicker and more effectively, so you avoid additional dental problems in the future.

If you require dental care outside of normal practice hours, please call 111.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Teeth Whitening

If you would like a brighter, whiter smile, then teeth whitening might be a great option for you. Teeth whitening is a safe procedure providing your teeth have been checked for suitability by a dentist.

We offer a number of teeth whitening systems the most popular being home whitening. You will receive a custom-made set of trays which fit over your teeth comfortably. The active teeth whitening gel is placed in the trays and fitted onto your teeth.

Our in-surgery treatment takes around an hour and can brighten your smile immediately, so if you are looking for a quick fix, this maybe it.

We also offer Enlighten whitening which uses the home whitening technique for 2 weeks, then you attend an appointment in surgery for a supercharged gel with higher concentration of carbomide peroxide, for a guaranteed brighter smile. Enlighten treatment provides a desensitising treatment prior to whitening to reduce sensitivity, if you do experience sensitivity, smearing sensitive toothpaste on the affected areas works really well.

Teeth Veneers

Are your teeth stained, chipped, or crooked? Veneers are a great treatment option to consider because they look like natural teeth and don’t require a major procedure.

A veneer is a very thin, tooth-coloured piece of porcelain (like a false finger nail) that is bonded on top of your own tooth. Based on your needs, we can adjust the shape of your veneers to create the smile you have always wanted. You can have just one veneer or a whole set, known as a smile makeover.

For a single stained tooth, we can also match the precise shade of porcelain to fit perfectly with your natural teeth. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when braces are not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.

White Fillings

White or tooth-coloured fillings provide a more natural, mercury-free alternative to traditional silver amalgam fillings and are a popular choice as they blend perfectly into your natural teeth, meaning that no one need even know they are there.

They provide good durability and resistance to fracture in small- to mid-size fillings that need to withstand moderate day to day pressures.

Composite Build Up

What is a composite build up?
Composite build ups are a way of changing the colour and shape of your teeth using a composite dental restorative material and also dental adhesive resins.

Why would you want to have a composite build up?
If you suffer from any blemishes, unevenness, gaps, or you are just generally unhappy with the way your teeth look, a composite build up could be an effective treatment for you.

Is the composite resin used safe?
Yes. All the materials we use for our treatments are tried, tested, and ensured to be safe to use.

Dental Implants

Crowns and Bridges

It is common for patients to experience a missing tooth, for a number of reasons. Quite often a patient can be affected by the cosmetic look of a missing tooth, and may even struggle with chewing, biting or even opening or closing their mouth.  Dental restoration is an option in the form of a bridge or crown, which are fixed prosthetic teeth that are cemented onto existing teeth or implants.

What is the difference between a crown and a bridge?
A crown is a type of dental restoration used to entirely cover or ‘cap’ a damaged tooth that has been broken, weakened by decay or contains a very large filling. A tooth crown can also protect a restored tooth and improve its appearance. They are commonly used to strengthen the remaining tooth, with a natural appearance.

A bridge is a better solution if you have one or more teeth missing, as it is commonly used to cover a space. Bridges can be made of a precious metal base, which gives us a solid structure and makes them hard-wearing. The next stage is to add porcelain to the base to make it look more like real teeth. A strong, sturdy way to restore several teeth in a row and to help the ability to eat and chew.

Dentures

If you have a few or all of your teeth missing, one solution is to have a denture. A denture is made from hard-wearing material that mimics the look of teeth and gums to give your mouth a natural appearance. Your denture will be made to fit snugly on your gums and you will be able to remove it for cleaning.

When you wear a denture for the first time it may take some getting used to when speaking or eating and chewing. It is important that you take extra care in your hygiene regime so that you can avoid bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease. The hygienist will be able to show you how to best take care of your denture and gums and will tell you about specialised brushes you can use to do this.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a modern and advanced way of replacing a missing tooth, teeth or for replacing traditional dentures. A dental implant is a metal rod made from titanium which is placed into the jawbone to replace the root portion of your own natural tooth.

The only visible part is the replacement tooth itself, and this is referred to as a crown. A crown will be shaped and coloured to look just like your natural teeth so that nobody will ever know the difference. You will be able to eat and chew normally, with no pain or discomfort.

A consultation with our specialist implant dentist is required, during which a plan and a diagnosis is drawn up, so we can talk you through your options.

Our implant specialist is gentle and sensitive and has worked with many complex implant cases including extensive bone graft procedures and delicate sinus lifts. The treatment will be carried out under local anaesthetic, with no pain during the process.

The procedure can really change the way you feel about your teeth and mouth and make a remarkable difference to the overall look and feel. The result is a confident new smile that looks and feels as if you’d never lost your teeth.

Dental implants can be used no matter what the cause of tooth loss, be it trauma (teeth knocked out), tooth decay or gum disease or simple the natural ageing process. They are suitable for almost every patient.

Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel

COSMELAN PEEL is described by many professionals- doctors, aestheticians, skin care experts, the world’s leading professional pigmentation removal method. The treatment is suitable for all forms of hyperpigmentation from melasma, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, solar lentigo to ephelides (freckles) and can be used on all skin phototypes (Fitzpatrick skin types)- from very light skin to a very dark skins.

Let’s start from the beginning and understand how COSMELAN works and what makes it so unique!

Cosmelan is a depigmenting method that removes spots fully and prevents their reappearance for a short-term outcome, while being able to maintain hyperpigmentation’s under control for a long-lasting outcome. Efficient cosmetic method with proven results in eliminating and/or reducing melanic spots. Facial Mask. Professional treatment with a concentrated formula that allows to stimulate intensively skin renewal to remove the existing spots.

It consists of 2 products -COSMELAN 1 ( application to be done in the clinic) and COSMELAN 2 (home application)

What is COSMELAN PEEL and who is it for?

The COSMELAN treatment is the world’s leading professional pigmentation removal method. The treatment is suitable for all forms of hyperpigmentation from melasma, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, solar lentigo to ephelides (freckles) and can be used on all skin phototypes.

What causes hyperpigmentation?

Skin hyperpigmentation is caused by abnormal production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour, and a consequence of uncontrolled, localised overproduction of melanin inside the melanocyte, which causes irregular skin colouration and dark spots. Numerous external and internal factors can cause hyperpigmentation:

  • Genetic Tendency
  • Sun Exposure
  • Inflammation
  • Hormonal Changes
  • Ageing
  • Exposure to Chemicals
  • Photosensitising medication

How does COSMELAN work?

With an intensive corrective effect that regulates overproduction of melanin in the melanocytes, inhibiting and controlling the appearance of new dark spots. It’s dual corrective and controlling action achieves both short and long-term results by keeping hyperpigmentation under control. The Cosmelan contains an exclusive combination of active substances with proven efficacy, which act on all phases of the hyperpigmentation process totally eliminating existing hyperpigmentation, preventing it reappearance and stopping the appearance of new dark spots.

What does the Cosmelan method involve?

The treatment consists of one in-clinic treatment followed by home maintenance, which should be continued for 12 months.

The Cosmelan 1 is the professional treatment mask which is applied by a skin professional in clinic and this should be left on for a period of between 8 – 12 hours depending on the clients Fitzpatrick, skin type and form of hyperpigmentation.

The Cosmelan 2 should then be used by the client at home. This process is started 48 hours post the in-clinic mask and is recommended to be used three times daily in the first month. Twice daily in the 2nd and 3rd month and once in the evening in the 4th month onwards.

Why is it important the client uses the homecare?

The homecare process of Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream is continued to allow the melanocyte to stop producing the same abnormal production of melanin and continue to not produce this by its self. If this is not followed for this amount of time, the hyperpigmentation will most likely return as the melanocyte will start producing the same hyperpigmentation.

How quickly can results be seen?

Results can be seen in as little as two weeks but can continue to improve with the best of the result being seen between 30 and 60 days following the treatment.

Will the client experience any after effects and how long does this last?

Peeling and a little redness and irritation can be expected initially. This may last until the application of cosmelan 2 is reduced in the second month. Melan recovery is recommended to be applied to the skin to reduce the peeling and irritation significantly.

Can this treatment be performed only on the face?

No, Cosmelan may also be used on the body and is commonly used on the back, shoulders, arms décolletage and hands, which all commonly experience forms of hyperpigmentation.

What aftercare products can the client use following treatment?

The client should be using mesoestetic ultimate W+ foam, melan recovery and melan 130+ alongside their Cosmelan 2. Using the products will reduce irritation, peeling and chances of having any adverse reactions.

Are there any products the client should avoid and is it safe for them to use other products at any point during the method?

Any products containing Vitamin C or retinols should be avoided throughout the first 1 month at least or as advised. These will be too stimulating for the skin.

During the first month, the skin will be particularly sensitised, and we would therefore only recommend they use the products contained in the aftercare pack with the maintenance cream.

After the first month however, when the skin is no longer irritated, we recommend introducing other products from the mesoestetic W+ whitening range, along with the melan tran3x concentrate and melan tran3x gelcream.

Can the treatment be combined with any other treatment?

During the Cosmelan treatment no other procedures should be performed, however the melanostop peel should be performed 48 hours before the Cosmelan in-clinic treatment. This will prepare the skin for the treatment removing any dead skin cells and hydrating the skin, allowing the Cosmelan to work deeper within the skin.

Why would this treatment be chosen over other treatments for hyperpigmentation, such as laser?

Laser is a commonly used, highly effective treatment. It is particularly effective for low and medium phototype skins (phototype 1-3) where hyperpigmentation is more visible on the skin surface. Even so, the professional must recommend a maintenance treatment to prevent the reappearance.

In higher phototypes (phototype 4-6) however, laser is less effective, and the likelihood of postinflammatory hyperpigmentation is higher. The cosmelan method is better tolerated, more efficient and involves a lower risk of recurrence and a longer-lasting result.
